Scooters, punk rock and vegan cooking..........
As a long-time vegan, I like creating and cooking vegan foods. I enjoy the challenge of using plant ingredients to try and create replacements for traditional animal meats. I have always loved cooking, both at home and in the catering industry where I held a number of positions in professional kitchens.
I started making non-meat pies over 30 years ago, with my first commercial food sales (of vegan bacon butties) from the front of my tent at the Cramond Island Punks Picnic in 1990. The bacon went down well and sold out rapidly. I made my first butcher-style pork pie, with meaty chunks, jelly and hot water pastry in 2012. Since then, I've invented and refined many new varieties of meat-style pies and continue to develop new recipes.
In 2018, I registered with my local Environmental Health department and passed my first food hygiene inspection. I first sold my pies on my punk music market stall, they sold so well that I decided to develop the food business further. In May 2019 I began to attend Farmers' Markets and sold out on every occasion, and the business has grown exponentially, now I send my products all over the country and deliver locally.
I live in beautiful Moray, in the north of Scotland with my family which includes a menagerie of rescue animals that keep me busy and entertained.
My other interests include the skinhead and punk subcultures, tattooing, scooters and, of course, wonderful Oi! music.
I’m glad that people other than friends and family can now enjoy my food, and have been very happy to supply some of my favourite punk bands with vegan pies. I’m also happy that people enjoy reading about my food and eating it as much as I enjoy making it.
